The trophy of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024, the first FIFA tournament in Central Asia was handed to the host nation,
Uzbekistan at the FIFA office in Paris, France.
Uzbekistan will be the first Central Asian country to host a FIFA tournament. The 10th FIFA Futsal World Cup will begin in Uzbekistan in September.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the trophy to Ravshan Irmatov, Vice President of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA), and Adkham Ikramov, Minister of Sports of Uzbekistan. Also present were Oybek Kasimov, Secretary General of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee, and Otabek Umarov, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia.
The tournament, featuring 24 teams including debutants Afghanistan, Tajikistan, New Zealand, and France, with Portugal defending their title, will take place from 14 September to 6 October 2024, in Andijan, Bukhara, and Tashkent. The draw was held in May at Registan Square, Samarkand.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, “At our office in Paris, we marked an important milestone by handing over the official trophy to the Uzbekistan Minister of Sports, Adkham Ikramov, and the Vice President of the Uzbekistan Football Association, Ravshan Irmatov. I thanked them for their preparations and wished them luck. The draw in Samarkand gave us a glimpse of what to expect, and I look forward to a fantastic tournament in this beautiful country. It was also nice to tour our museum, which includes memorabilia from Ravshan Irmatov’s refereeing career.”
